Leonard Bell, M.D.Chief Executive Officer -
Dr. Leonard Bell is the Chief Executive Officer and principal founder of Alexion Pharmaceuticals. Under his leadership, Alexion has grown to become a leading global biopharmaceutical company with fully integrated research, discovery, development, commercial and manufacturing capabilities.
Dr. Bell brings a unique combination of scientific, clinical and business skills to Alexion. He is one of the Alexion scientists who developed Soliris® (eculizumab), the company's first product and the first in a new class of therapies to inhibit terminal complement. He also played a critical role in the regulatory submission, approval and introduction of Soliris in 2007. He continues to guide the company's expansion into major markets worldwide, as well as its ongoing research and development programs focused on hematological diseases, cancer and autoimmune disorders. Dr. Bell led Alexion through an initial public offering in 1996, and he has secured financing totaling approximately $800 million to fund development and operations since the company's inception in 1992. Today, Alexion is a profitable, rapidly growing global biopharmaceutical firm.
Prior to founding Alexion, Dr. Bell was an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Pathology and co-Director of the Program in Vascular Biology at the Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Bell also served as an attending physician at the Yale-New Haven Hospital. He remains on the faculty of the Yale University School of Medicine as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medicine and Pathology. Dr. Bell's work has resulted in more than 20 scientific publications and nine patent applications.
Dr. Bell received his bachelor's degree from Brown University and M.D. from Yale University School of Medicine.

Stephen P. Squinto, Ph.D.Executive Vice President and Head of Research & Development -
Dr. Stephen Squinto is co-founder of Alexion Pharmaceuticals and currently serves as Executive Vice President and Head of Research and Development. Dr. Squinto is responsible for research, clinical, regulatory, product development and manufacturing functions at Alexion.
Since co-founding Alexion with CEO Leonard Bell in 1992, Dr. Squinto has held several leadership positions guiding the company's science and technology, including Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer (1998-2000), Vice President of Research, Molecular Sciences (1994-98), Senior Director of Molecular Sciences (1993-94) and Director of Molecular Development (1992-93). Prior to his time with Alexion, Dr. Squinto held various positions at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc, including Senior Scientist and Assistant Head of the Discovery Group.
Dr. Squinto also served as Assistant Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Louisiana State University Medical Center (1986-89), and with more than 70 scientific papers resulting from his work, remains one of the foremost researchers in molecular and cellular biology. He has also served as a director of the Biotechnology Research and Development Corporation and Arradial, Inc. and is currently President of the Board of Directors of the Greater New Haven Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Dr. Squinto received a bachelor's degree in chemistry and a doctorate degree in biochemistry and biophysics from Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois.

Patrice CoissacSenior Vice President, Alexion Pharmaceuticals
President, Alexion International Sàrl -
Patrice Coissac joined Alexion in 2005 and serves as a Corporate Senior Vice President and as President of Alexion International. Mr. Coissac also leads the company's expanding global operations in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and African countries.
Prior to joining Alexion, Mr. Coissac was President of Pharmacia SAS in France. During his tenure, he led the integration of Searle Pharmaceuticals into Pharmacia and increased the organization's revenues nearly threefold. Prior joining Pharmacia, Mr. Coissac also held various senior international positions at Novartis in Belgium, at Boehringer Mannheim in France and Germany, and early on in his career at Sandoz Pharmaceuticals in France, Switzerland and Japan.

Thomas DubinSenior Vice President and General Counsel -
Thomas Dubin is Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Alexion Pharmaceuticals, a position he has held since 2005. Mr. Dubin joined Alexion as Vice President and General Counsel in 2001. In his current role, Mr. Dubin oversees all global legal matters, as well as human resources, government relations and facilities management. He also is responsible for development of the Asia Pacific region, where his legal expertise will be critical in structuring local organizations and securing market entry in multiple countries.
Previously, Mr. Dubin was Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary for ChiRex Inc., an international corporation providing advanced process development services and specialty manufacturing to the pharmaceutical industry. Mr. Dubin also held various positions with Warner-Lambert Company, including Assistant General Counsel of Pharmaceuticals, and practiced corporate law for five years with Cravath, Swaine & Moore in New York.
Mr. Dubin received a bachelor of arts from Amherst College in Massachusetts, where he graduated with honors, and a law degree from New York University.

David L. HallalSenior Vice President, Commercial Operations, Americas -
David Hallal is Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations, Americas for Alexion Pharmaceuticals. In this position, Mr. Hallal is responsible for all commercial functions in North and South America, including marketing, sales, reimbursement, health policy and product access services. Mr. Hallal joined Alexion in 2006 to build the company's U.S. commercial organization, and he led the highly successful U.S. launch of the company's first product, Soliris (eculizumab). Mr. Hallal is also preparing the company to enter additional markets such as Canada, Mexico and Brazil.
Before joining Alexion, Mr. Hallal served as Vice President, Sales at OSI Eyetech where he led the U.S. launch of Macugen, the first-in-class anti-VEGF therapy for age-related macular degeneration. Prior to OSI Eyetech, Mr. Hallal was Senior Director of Sales for Biogen Idec's Immunology Sales Team, where he built a sales organization dedicated to the launch of the first-in-class biologic Amevive for psoriasis.
Beginning in 1992, Mr. Hallal worked for more than ten years at Amgen, where he held various leadership positions focusing on the blockbuster brands Epogen, Neupogen, Neulasta and Aranesp in the hematology and oncology marketplace. His roles included National Account Manager, Southeast Oncology Sales Director and Oncology Health Systems Sales Director, and Director of Oncology National Accounts, where he was responsible for forging relationships with many of the largest managed care organizations in the United States.
Mr. Hallal received a bachelor of arts from the University of New Hampshire.

Vikas SinhaSenior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer -
Vikas Sinha has served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Alexion since 2005. In this role, Mr. Sinha has responsibility for global financial management, corporate and strategic development, communications and information technology activities. He is also responsible for market development in Japan.
Previously, Mr. Sinha spent 11 years with Bayer AG, where he held numerous positions in the United States, Japan, Germany and Canada, including, most recently, the position of Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Bayer Pharmaceutical Corporation, USA. During his time with Bayer, Mr. Sinha held responsibility for a variety of business functions, including financial and business risk management, strategic planning, contracting, customer services, information systems, and supply chain and site administration in North America. He also served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Bayer Yakuhin Ltd., in Japan, Manager of Mergers and Acquisitions with Bayer AG in Germany, and began his career at Bayer in Toronto in a healthcare executive development program. Prior to Bayer, Mr. Sinha also held several positions of increasing responsibilities with ANZ Bank and Citibank in South Asia.
Mr. Sinha holds a master's degree in business administration from the Asian Institute of Management. He is also a qualified Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.

Camille Bedrosian M.D.Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer -
Dr. Camille L. Bedrosian joined Alexion as Chief Medical Officer in May 2008. A medical oncologist and hematologist, she brings more than 25 years of medical practice, research and drug development expertise to this role. At Alexion, she provides leadership for the development of compounds across therapeutic franchises, including expansion of both the PNH franchise as well as additional therapeutic indications for Alexion's marketed product, eculizumab. In addition, she is leading the effort to build the oncology platform initially with the first-in-class anti-CD200 monoclonal antibody.
Dr. Bedrosian has global responsibility for aspects of clinical research, such as clinical operations, clinical data management, medical affairs and pharmacovigilance. In her role, she also interacts extensively with global commercial and business development teams.
Previously, Dr. Bedrosian spent more than five years as the Chief Medical Officer for ARIAD Pharmaceuticals, Inc., which specializes in discovery and development of small molecules to treat cancer by regulating cell signaling. During her tenure with ARIAD, she built and expanded the medical research department from one to nearly 25 members and implemented 13 clinical trials. She led and implemented the strategic development of the company's lead product candidate, deforolimus, successfully through its clinical development from first in human trials to orphan drug designation in both the United States and European Union, to a new dosage form, and to an SPA-approved Phase 3 trial for patients with sarcoma. In 2005, she was recipient of the Symbol of Caring Award from the Sarcoma Foundation of America. She was a pivotal member of the team whose activities resulted in ARIAD's global partnership with Merck & Co., Inc. to further develop and commercialize deforolimus.
Before joining ARIAD, Dr. Bedrosian served from 1997 to 2002 in the Clinical Research and Development Department of Genetics Institute, Inc., which was acquired by Wyeth, and assumed roles of increasing responsibility, ultimately as Senior Director of Oncology/Hematology and Therapeutic Area Director for Hemophilia.
Dr. Bedrosian was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Duke University Medical Center and member of the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center, where she also had completed her residency in internal medicine and then fellowship in hematology and medical oncology. During her time at Duke, Dr. Bedrosian worked closely with Professor Wendell Rosse, considered one of the most prominent researchers and clinicians specializing in the rare disease paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH). She currently is an Assistant Consulting Professor of Medicine at Duke.
Dr. Bedrosian is the author of numerous research publications, patents, presentations, and abstracts, and is a member of several professional associations, including the American Association for Cancer Research, American Association for the Advancement of Sciences, American Society of Clinical Oncology and American Society of Hematology.
Dr. Bedrosian holds a B.A. degree in Honors Chemistry from Harvard University, an M.D. degree from Harvard Medical School and an M.S. degree in Biophysics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

M. Stacy Hooks, Ph.D.Senior Vice President, Technical Operations -
Dr. Stacy Hooks is Senior Vice President of Technical Operations at Alexion. In this role, Dr. Hooks leads the manufacturing efforts, manages the supply chain, oversees product process and analytical development, and has responsibility for the company's quality control and quality assurance functions.
Dr. Hooks joined Alexion in 2002, and has held a variety of positions, including Director of Quality Control (2002-2004), Senior Director of Manufacturing and Technical Services (2004), Executive Director of Manufacturing and Technical Services (2004-2006), and Vice President of Manufacturing and Technical Service (2007-2008).
Previously, Dr. Hooks was Director of Quality Assurance at Pharmacia, Inc. Dr. Hooks has also served as Director of Quality at QIAGEN, Inc., a multinational life sciences company, Associate Director of Quality Control at MedImmune, Inc., a biopharmaceutical firm, a Quality Scientist with Biogen-IDEC. He began his career at CytoTherapeutics.
Dr. Hooks received his bachelor of science in chemistry from Murray State University in Kentucky and a doctorate in chemistry from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.

Claude Nicaise M.D.Senior Vice President, Strategic Product Development & Global Regulatory Affairs -
Dr. Claude Nicaise is Senior Vice President of Strategic Product Development and Global Regulatory Affairs, a position he has held since joining the company in 2008. In this role, Dr. Nicaise is responsible for the company's regulatory activities worldwide as Alexion develops new products and prepares for entry into new markets.
Prior to joining Alexion, Dr. Nicaise worked for Bristol-Myers Squibb for 24 years, where he held numerous senior management roles, including Vice President of Global Development; Vice President of Worldwide Regulatory Science and Global Regulatory Strategy; Vice President of Worldwide Regulatory Science and Strategy for Oncology, Infectious Disease and Neuroscience; Executive Director of Infectious Diseases Clinical Research; and Director of Clinical Cancer Research. During his time with Bristol-Myers Squibb, Dr. Nicaise oversaw the approvals of numerous treatments for cancer, schizophrenia and infectious diseases, including Tequin (bacterial infections), Erbitux (cancer), Abilify (schizophrenia) and Reyataz (HIV).
Before joining Bristol-Myers Squibb, Dr. Nicaise also worked as a Medical Advisor in Oncology at Bristol Benelux Laboratories and as an Oncology Consultant at the Braine-l'Alleud Waterloo Hospital in Brussels, Belgium.
Dr. Nicaise is the author of more than 60 research articles published in peer-reviewed journals and is a member of several professional medical associations, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the European Society for Medical Oncology, the American Society for Microbiology and the American Society of Hematology.
Dr. Nicaise holds a medical degree from the Université libre de Bruxelles in Belgium.

Russell P. Rother, Ph.D.Senior Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer -
Dr. Russell Rother is Senior Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer at Alexion. Dr. Rother is responsible for managing the Departments of Research, Scientific Communications, Medical Information, Bioanalytical Development and Biometrics. He also chairs the company's investigator-initiated trial committee.
As one of the original scientists at Alexion, Dr. Rother has played a critical role in the engineering and development of Alexion's current antibody therapeutics and continues to lead discovery efforts in the identification of new indications and novel drug targets. Dr. Rother was primarily responsible for the initiation of the paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) program, playing a major role in the development of Soliris (eculizumab), the first therapy approved for the treatment of PNH. Dr. Rother has served in other key positions to guide the direction of research in the company including Senior Vice President of Research (2005-2007); Vice President of Discovery Research (2001-2005); Senior Director of Discovery Research (1999-2001); Director of Gene Technologies (1996-1999); Senior Staff Scientist (1994-1996); and Staff Scientist (1992-1994).
Prior to 1992, Dr. Rother was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Immunobiology at Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Rother's work has led to more than 60 scientific papers and patents in the fields of hematology, complement biology, transplantation, autoimmunity and gene therapy. He is a member of the International PNH Interest Group and the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society.
Dr. Rother received a doctorate degree in microbiology and immunology from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in conjunction with the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation and a Bachelor of Science degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

James P. Bilotta M.B.A.Vice President and Chief Information Officer -
James P. Bilotta, M.B.A., is Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Alexion. His reponsibilities include setting and achieving Alexion's Information Technology (IT) strategy and providing IT services worldwide. From April 2004 through January 2008, Mr. Bilotta served as Director and then Senior Director of Information & Technology at Alexion. Prior to joining Alexion, Mr. Bilotta was Senior Manager in IT at Purdue Pharma L.P. , a manufacturer of pharmaceutical products. He also served as a consultant at Concord Based Information & Technology Strategies where he consulted for mid-size and large pharmaceutical and automotive companies. In this role, Mr. Bilotta was responsible for managing client relationships, business-process re-engineering, and delivering complex, proprietary and off-the-shelf business systems such as SAP. Mr. Bilotta holds a Bachelor of Science and an MBA from Southern Connecticut State University where he graduated with the business school's "Outstanding Student Award."

Daniel N. CaronVice President, Site Operations and Engineering -
Daniel Caron is Vice President, Site Operations and Engineering for Alexion, with responsibility for managing the engineering and operations of the company's research and administrative facilities.
Mr. Caron has been involved in the operation of Alexion since 1992, when he joined the company as Operations Manager. Over the next several years, Mr. Caron assumed roles of increasing responsibility, including Senior Operations Manager (1993-1996), Director of Operations (1996-1998), Senior Director of Operations and Engineering (1998-2004) and Executive Director of Operations and Engineering (2004-2008). Before joining Alexion, Mr. Caron was a research scientist at ImClone Systems Inc., a biopharmaceutical firm.
Mr. Caron received his bachelor of arts in biology from Adelphi University in New York, where he graduated with honors, and a master's degree in biomedical engineering from Polytechnic University of New York.

Glenn MelroseVice President, Human Resources -
Glenn Melrose is Vice President of Human Resources for Alexion, a position he has held since joining the company in 2007. In this role, Mr. Melrose is responsible for developing and implementing the company's human resource strategy to support its growth in the United States and major markets around the world. He ensures that existing and newly opened Alexion operations receive appropriate support based on local needs.
Previously, Mr. Melrose was Vice President of Human Resources at NPS Pharmaceuticals. For 16 years, he also held roles of increasing responsibility at Amersham Diagnostics, including leading the worldwide Human Resources function for Amersham Biosciences. Mr. Melrose began his career as a scientist at the University of Maryland Cancer Center and Becton Dickinson, a medical technology company.
Mr. Melrose received a bachelor of science in biology from Washington and Lee University in Virginia and a master's degree in experimental biology from the University of Maryland.

Jeremy P. Springhorn Ph.D.Vice President, Corporate Strategy and Business Development -
Dr. Jeremy P. Springhorn is Vice President of Corporate Strategy and Business Development at Alexion, where he is responsible for managing Corporate Strategy, Licensing, Business Development and Competitive Intelligence for the Company. He also chairs the company's Licensing committee.
Dr. Springhorn was one of the original scientists at Alexion and played an integral role in the engineering and development of Alexion's antibody therapeutics, including Soliris® (eculizumab). Over the past several years, Dr. Springhorn has transitioned from Research to Business Development, leveraging his drug development experience into the review of licensing opportunities. Dr. Springhorn has led many of the recent and current deals for Alexion. He has also served in other key positions in the company including Head of Business Development and Corporate Strategy; Senior Director of Protein Therapeutics and Head of Collaborative Research; Director of Small Molecule Drug Discovery, and Principal Scientist. He also served as a scientific advisor to Arradial, Inc and currently serves as a director of the Greater New Haven Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Prior to 1992, Dr. Springhorn was an Instructor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Cardiovascular Division of the Department of Medicine at the Brigham and Women's Hospital. He is a member of the Licensing Executives Society and Biotechnology Industry Organization.
Dr. Springhorn received a doctorate degree in biochemistry and molecular biology from the Louisiana State University Medical Center and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Colby College.
